Christ's sacrifice opened the way for us to be with the Father because we are now correct, now perfect and now holy in the Father's eyes:Romans 5:11 "And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.(or 'at one purpose with God', 'reconciled')."
Are we to sacrifice today as in the Old Testament? -Hebrews 10:26 ".....there remains no other sacrifice for sins." Christ's sacrifice covered it all! -Hebrews 9:13,14 "For if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ.....?" Hebrews 10:4 "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away.(original is 'cut off', 'remove').sins."
Now did He just take away sins that came before Him? -Hebrews 9:15 "And for this cause he is the mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions.that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance."
That's what Christ did for us.
    The "sacrifices" for today are...

So how should we view all this? Hebrews 10:19-24 "Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh. And having an high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water, let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised. And let us consider one another.(and not this).to provoke unto love and to good works."

This drastic difference between the old & new covenants would separate those who strongly believed they should adhere to the old, as the Pharisees did in Jesus' time.
The Pharisees added so many of their own traditions, their own righteousnesses to the law that they knew so well.(Matthew 23:1-3), they totally corrupted the OT laws, but they thought that they were the righteous intelligent ones – wow! Paul was the same before his conversion.
    What the mind can think to do out of touch with God is amazing -Luke 18:10-14; Matthew 5:20; 12:14; 15:12; 19:3; 22:15; 23:14,25; Mark 2:16; 3:6; 7:3; 8:11; Luke 5:30; 6:7; 11:39; 15:2; John 8:3; 9:16; 11:57; 12:42; Acts 23:7,9.
But, Ezekiel 33:12-16 ".....The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression. As for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness, neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sinneth. When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live, if he trust to his own righteousness and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered, but for his iniquity that he hath committed, he shall die for it. Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die, if he turn from his sin and do that which is lawful and right.(and in the new covenant, that's belief in Christ).....he shall surely live, he shall not die. None of his sins that he hath committed shall be mentioned unto him....."

I mean, these guys were corrupt, vile, judgmental and vicious -Matthew 21:15 "And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did and the children crying in the temple and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David, they were sore displeased.".Welcome to..religion!
Any praise not to these pride filled Pharisees and their ilk caused them to be offended -Mark 12:38-40. They didn't know  that there is no peace in the heart unless love for others, sincerity and integrity.reigns. They even threatened those who thought differently. They disallowed heartfelt influence by the writings they claimed they followed -Matthew 12:3,5; 19:4; 22:29,31; Luke 6:3.
Sadly some who call themselves Christian are like that today, becoming the 'frozen chosen'. Paul was not like that!....continues

"When we learn to say a deep, passionate yes to the things that really matter,
then peace begins to settle onto our lives like golden sunlight sifting to a forest floor."
